Moldovan High Value Agriculture Companies will be More Competitive on Export Markets with CNFA/USAID Support News Release August 8, 2005
CNFA’s Agribusiness Development Project (ADP), funded by the United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), continues its investment in the Moldovan agriculture by improving the capacity of producers and processors to generate more competitive products on export markets. CNFA has awarded 9 new grants to six fresh fruit and vegetable producers and to three processors over the past month.
The total leveraged investment into the high value agriculture sector under ADP, including the companies’ own contribution, exceeds $ 2.2 million. These projects will create at least 85 new jobs in rural areas, as a result of improved production and processing capacity, which will also impact the companies’ sales and profit margins.
The funded projects will establish model plantations applying new growing technologies, diversify fruit varieties, establish modern processing facilities, implement modern harvesting and post-harvest handling techniques, introduce and improve pre-cooling and cold storage capacities, as well as develop marketing activities.
These projects will result in 36 ha of new fruit orchards, table grape vineyards and strawberry plantations, 22 ha of rehabilitated perennial plantations, and a modern drying facility with expanded capacity to process over 2,000 tons of fruit annually. The latter will supply the German market with top-quality Moldovan dried prunes. Two of the companies will also implement ISO 9001 Quality Management System. |
