Seminar to Help Moldovan Agribusinesses Access EU Markets

June 7, 2007

Press Release

Critical to the growth of the Moldovan agricultural industry is its entry and expansion in European Union markets. To achieve this, Moldovan agribusinesses must meet international and European quality and food safety standards.

The Agribusiness Development Project (ADP), funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by CNFA®, will organize a seminar entitled: “Food Safety based on HACCP Principles” on June 7, 2007, 10.00 am in the Raional Council Building in Stefan-Voda (1 Libertatii str.) The seminar will offer important recommendations for companies to meet key food safety requirements and standards of the European markets. The one-day training course will introduce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles required by EU countries. Moldovan companies that successfully implemented these standards will significantly improve their chances to penetrate EU markets. The training will be attended by 30 participants, including fruit and vegetable processors such as cannery companies, cold storages, drying companies and other related food industries.

This event is part of ADP’s efforts to provide technical assistance to farmers and agribusiness to improve their export potential. Since its inception in 2004, ADP has provided technical assistance and training in production, post-harvest handling, business management and marketing to over 4,000 agricultural producers.
