! Moldova National Agribusiness Forum Update November 9, 2007
Several of Moldova’s leading agribusiness enterprises are pleased to join together in organizing an important new public policy initiative for Moldovan agricultural development. With private-sector leadership from companies such as Alfa-Nistru, Moldova-Agroindbank, Codru ST, Anturaj, Agrostoc, Natur Bravo, Orhei-Vit, Ecoplantera, Basfruct, Mavisem, Monicol, Sauron and UniAgroProtect and organizational support from the American agricultural development organization CNFA, a long-term partner of Moldovan agribusiness, the Moldovan National Agribusiness Forum, a major international conference will be held in Chisinau.
The Forum, scheduled for November 15-16, 2007 and entitled, “Moldovan Agribusiness: Engine for Economic Growth,” will be hosted by Leogrand Hotel & Convention Center (77 Mitropolit Varlaam str.) and will start on November 15, 10:00 am. The event brings together key local and international leaders from government, agribusiness, finance and the donor community to focus on the opportunities and challenges for the agriculture sector as a major engine of growth for the Moldovan economy. More than 200 key actors in Moldovan agribusiness – farmers, service providers, processors, traders, financial institutions and government leaders – will participate. The Forum is designed to build consensus on the lessons learned over the past decade of agricultural reform and to chart a course for continued growth in agricultural production, trade and investment during the next decade, including a strategic discussion about the roles of the private sector, government and international donors in achieving this promise. Presentations and discussions will showcase needs and opportunities in the agricultural economy, as well as current examples of success, touching on the key areas of: smallholder empowerment and commercialization, expansion of support services, high-value agriculture, export promotion, value-adding, access to finance, policy reform and increased public/private cooperation.
It is important to note that the Moldovan National Agribusiness Forum is being organized, driven and funded, through corporate sponsorship and participation fees, by the Moldovan private sector, with the goal of sharing the unique knowledge and experience of successful Moldovan agribusinesses and giving the private sector a voice and a means to help build consensus among key decision makers regarding next steps in the country’s development.
