Press Release: Growers and Exporters Association Helps Moldovan Companies Increase Export Revenues May 28, 2008
May 29, 2008: For immediate release
Member companies of Moldova-Fruct Association experienced significant export revenue increases in 2007. Members point to improved product marketing as an important factor in their achievement. The Association was able to export larger quantities under a single brand and receive better prices, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Agribusiness Development Project. In 2007, the association exported 500 tons of apples under the “Moldova-Fruct” brand.
Cooperation in marketing fresh fruit and improvement of export competitiveness will be the subject of a meeting organized by the Agribusiness Development Project on May 30, 2008 starting at 10:30 in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (1st Floor, Stefan cel Mare str. 162, Chisinau). Members of Moldova-Fruct Association will share with Moldovan growers the experience of successful cooperation. New apple storage technologies will be presented, and discussions on customs tariffs and procedures will be held. The meeting will be attended by Moldova-Fruct members and other fruit producers and exporters, representatives of the Government, NGO’s, associations, international donors and mass-media. All interested journalists are invited.
The Moldova-Fruct Association was created in June 2006, by five Moldovan fruit growers interested in merging their efforts to increase export efficiency. USAID and the Agribusiness Development Project support Moldova-Fruct as well as other growers’ marketing associations as an efficient means of increasing local exporter competitiveness and bargaining power by securing larger quantities of high quality products, to be sold using a unique and distinctive brand identity.
