Moldova’s agribusiness community celebrates achievements and future opportunities in the high value agricultural sector at the USAID Agribusiness Development Project Summation Conference

September 14, 2009

Press Release

September 15, 2009: For immediate release

Over the past five years, USAID’s Agribusiness Development Project (ADP) has been actively engaged in improving the international competitiveness and trade performance of Moldova’s High Value Agriculture (HVA) sector, focusing especially on fresh fruit and vegetables for export. Working with a vast array of private, public and academic stakeholders, ADP has facilitated adoption of new technology and the development of strategic changes in the Moldovan HVA sector. As a result, a strong foundation has been laid for the further development of a competitive and market-driven HVA sector. ADP’s assistance in introducing new production, harvest, post-harvest handling technologies and marketing techniques will assist Moldova to regain its former position as a major exporter of high value fresh fruit and vegetable products and to penetrate new markets in Europe and beyond. As a result of ADP assistance, Moldovan farmers, exporters and food processors are better poised to benefit from the future opportunities in this core sector of the Moldovan economy.

ADP achievements, lessons learned and recommendations for the future development of the HVA sector will be the theme of the ADP Summation Conference High Value Agriculture Achievements and Perspectives scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 16th 2009, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm in the „Nistru” Conference Hall of the Leogrand Convention Center, located on 77, Mitropolit Varlaam St., Chisinau.

ADP’s local partners and beneficiaries will participate in the event, which will include keynote speeches, technical presentations and beneficiary testimonials. The event will also feature presentations by counterparts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Moldova-Vin State Agency, the National Agency for Rural Development (ACSA), the National Federation of Agricultural Producers from Moldova (AGROinform), the Table Grape Growers and Exporters Association of Moldova (TGGEA) and Moldova Fruct Association/Premium-Fruct Cooperative.
