Impact of the ADP/ACSA Demonstration Plot Project on Family Income ...April 1, 2009
The Agribusiness Development Project in association with the National Rural Development Service (ACSA) recently completed a country-wide small grower HVA field demonstration program. Initiated in June 2007, the program included a carefully selected group of 100 small-scale open field and greenhouse growers located in almost all Moldova raions. Selected growers received a $2,000 investment contribution from the project to support purchase of irrigation and related equipment for use during the 2008 growing season. Participants provided a matching investment and agreed to follow technical advice provided by ACSA consultants and to hold at least one field day to demonstrate results to their neighbors. They also agreed to maintain records of input costs and product sales in cooperation with the ACSA raional office and to provide cost and sales comparisons for the previous year so that an initial comparative estimate of the change in family income could be determined. This paper provides a brief report based on this data.
